Alstom Secures Contract to Supply Modern Trains for DB Regio AG in Northern Germany

On January 18, 2024, Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, announced a significant contract to deliver 18 Coradia Max electric multiple-unit trains to DB Regio AG. The order consists of 9 three-car and 9 five-car trains, set to operate initially on the popular regional express line RE1 between Hamburg and Rostock in the Baltic Sea-Alster sub-network (OSTA) starting in December 2027.

After the electrification of the line between Bad Kleinen and Lübeck, coupled with the construction of a connecting curve, these trains will extend their service to Lübeck. This marks a pivotal step in promoting green and sustainable mobility in the northern regions of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Müslüm Yakisan, President of Alstom Region DACH, highlighted the positive impact of the new double-decker trains on expanding passenger services sustainably. The Coradia Max offers increased capacity and comfort, emphasizing the commitment to environmentally friendly rail transport.

Carsten Moll, Chairman of DB Regio Northeast, expressed excitement about the new vehicles, emphasizing the investment in state-of-the-art trains to enhance the travel experience for commuters and day trippers.

Daniel Bischof, Managing Director of VMV-Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mbH, emphasized the focus on creating environmentally friendly mobility that connects regions, highlighting the incorporation of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state design for a pleasant journey.

The new trains, produced at the Alstom site in Salzgitter, feature a maximum authorized speed of 160 km/h, European Train Control System (ETCS) compatibility, and a combination of high capacity and comfort. The Coradia Max optimizes accessibility with different access heights, offering comfortable and ramp-free access for travelers with reduced mobility.
